167. BIRNBAUM, RABBI MICHEL / YESHIVAS MIR POLAND

Postcard featuring photographs of the entire student body of Yeshivas Mir in Poland 1929. ™ Prominently displayed in the middle are the pictures of R. Avraham Tzvi Kamai – Rav of Mir, R. Yeruchum Levovitz – Mashgiach and R. Eliezer Yehuda Finkel – Rosh Yeshiva. Pictured directly underneath is R. Avraham Kalmanowitz – then President of the Yeshiva, and later, its Rosh Yeshiva on American soil. The Yiddish note on the back, dated 1932, reads “For my best friends, the Zwellkowski family. From me, Michel Birnbaum”. R. Michel Birnbaum (died 2003) was an outstanding student of the Mir Yeshiva in its glorious pre-war era. He was later appointed as the Mashgiach of Mesivta Tiferes Yerushalayim (MTJ) in New York for many decades where he became a beloved father figure to his many students. Aside from his duties in the Yeshiva, he also served on the Beis Din of R. Moshe Feinstein. Fair condition. Creased with tear.
