Signed letter on embossed letterhead dated 1864, to the famed Rabbi Eliyahu Gutmacher, of Greiditz. ™ After lauding R. Gutmacher with extraordinary titles, R. Bamberger writes that he has just published his work Moreh L’Zovchim on the laws of Shechita and is enclosing a copy as a personal gift, as well as twelve more copies to be sold among the local Shochtim. Additionally, he informs R. Gutmacher that his work Amira L’Bais Yaakov (laws pertaining to the Jewish woman) has just been republished and he is sending one as a gift and 6 to be sold. This letter is demonstrative of the great friendship between these two leading giants of the Torah world. R. Yitzchak Dov Bamberger (1807-1878) was one of the most prominent Rabbonim, as well as a most influential Orthodox spokesman, of nineteenth century Germany. In his youth he studied at the great Yeshiva of Furth under R. Binyamin Wolf Hamburger. As Rav of Wurzburg, in addition to leading a Yeshiva and fulfilling his communal duties, he published many important works, amongst them Meleches Shamayim, Amira L’Bais Yaakov, Moreh L’Zovchim, Nachlei Devash, Yitzchak Yeranen and others. R. Eliyahu Gutmacher (1796-1875), the revered rabbi of Greiditz, was renowned as a saintly Tzaddik whose piety matched his great scholarship. He was the address for many downtrodden individuals seeking his blessing as well as scholars who sought his religious counsel. Fair condition slightly faded with some staining. 14 by 17.5 cm.
