R. Yehuda Assad (1794-1866) was a disciple of R. Mordechai Banet of Nikolsburg. He served as Rav in various communities most notably Serdeheli. Enormously revered by both his rabbinical contemporaries as well as the masses. Following the passing of the Chasam Sofer in 1839, he was recognized as the preeminent rabbinical leader of Hungarian Jewry, particularly in leading the bitter and unrelenting struggle against the Reform movement. Author of the Halachic responsa Yehuda Ya’leh as well novella on various tractates of the Talmud.

ר’ יהודה אסאד (תקנ”ד-תרכ”ו 1794-1866) היה תלמידו של ר’ מרדכי בנט מניקלשבורג. הוא שימש כרב בקהילות שונות, שהמוכרת בהן הייתה סרדהדלי. הן חבריו הרבנים והן המון העם רחשו לו כבוד עצום. לאחר פטירת החת”ם סופר בשנת ת”ר (1839) הוא הוכר כמנהיג הרבני הראשי של יהדות הונגריה ובפרט בניהול המאבק המר והבלתי נלאה נגד תנועת הרפורמה. מחבר השו”ת ההלכתי “יהודה יעלה” וכן חידושי תורה על מסכתות שונות בגמרא
