The Rav Sheftel Kramer, Rav Y. Y. Ruderman and Rav Y. Weinberg copy. The first of hundreds of seforim containing novella of the Vilna Gaon, printed during the year following his passing by R. Menachem Mendel of Shklow. R. Menachem Mendel writes in his introduction that he was instructed by the Gaon that from all his works, the commentary on Mishlei should be printed first, as it is full of teachings about fear of G-d which is the prelude to all wisdom. Additionally, he writes that he recorded much of the sefer while learning personally with the Gaon. ™ On the flyleaf there is an inscription (seemingly autograph) in Hebrew reading “From the seforim of HaRav. S. K. Shlita R”M and Menahel of Slutzk”. R. Sheftel Kramer was the youngest son in law of the renowned R. Shraga Feivel Frank, whose other son in laws included R. Moshe Mordechai Epstein and R. Isser Zalman Meltzer. R. Kramer served as Menahel of the Slutzk Yeshiva. The sefer was inherited by his son in law, R. Ruderman, and, following that, by his own son in law, R. Weinberg. Vinograd Sifrei HaGra 88, Vinograd Shklow 104. Shabse ben Benzion press. 61,15,1 pages. Wide margins 26 cm. Fair condition, some marking, worn from much use, which some damage to first three pages including the title page affecting text. Some worming, affecting text on last eleven pages. Original binding (worn). Fundamental mussar sefer that belonged to three generations of one of Lithuania’s most illustrious Torah families.
