Historic autograph letter to R. Meir Jung of Brody in response to the latter’s initiative to found a unified Orthodox political party that would nominate a candidate to represent the Orthodox Jewish community in the Austrian parliament. This letter is of particular interest as ultimately R. Aaron Levin served as a member of the Polish Sejm.
R. Aaron Levin (1880-1941), was born into a distinguished rabbinical family and was renowned from a young age for his brilliant mind coupled with great diligence. He studied primarily under his father, R. Nosson Levin Rav of Reisha and his grandfather the renowned R. Yitzchok Schmelkes (Bais Yitzchok), Rav of Lemberg. He served as Rav in Sambor and following his father’s passing in 1926 he succeeded him as Rav in Reisha. He was one of the most influential rabbinical figures in Poland, consulted on every Jewish communal issue and in addition to his rabbinical duties he served as a member of the Polish Sejm (Parliament) as a representative of Agudas Yisroel.

מכתב היסטורי לר’ מאיר צבי יונג מברודי בתגובה ליוזמתו של ר’ מאיר לייסד מפלגה פוליטית אורתודוקסית מאוחדת שתציע מועמד לייצג את הקהילה היהודית האורתודוקסית בפרלמנט האוסטרי. מכתב זה מעינין במיוחד שבסופו של דבר כיהן ר’ אהרן לוין עצמו כחבר בסיים הפולני.
ר’ אהרן לוין (תר”מ-תש”א 1880-1941) נולד למשפחה רבנית מיוחסת והתפרסם מגיל צעיר במוחו המבריק ובשקידתו העצומה. למד בעיקר אצל אביו ר’ נתן לוין, רבה של ריישא ואצל סבו המפורסם ר’ יצחק שמלקיש רבה של לבוב. שימש כרב בעיר סאמבור, ובעקבות פטירת אביו בשנת תרפ”ו (1926) מילא את מקומו כרב בריישא. היה דמות רבנית בעלת השפעה רבה ביותר בפולין, עמו נועצו בכל סוגיה ציבורית יהודית. בנוסף לתפקידיו הרבניים, הוא שימש כחבר בסיים הפולני כנציג אגודת ישראל. מחבר ספר מטה אהרן.
