R. Shlomo Eliezer Alfandari (ca. 1813-1930), was one of the most distinguished Rabbonim in Turkey. A tremendous Talmid Chochom and Mekubal, in his youth, he corresponded with R. Akiva Eiger. He served as Rav of Constantinople and Damascus. When he was about 100 years old, he immigrated to Eretz Yisroel, where he served as Rav of Tzfas. In his final years, he settled in Yerusholayim where he passed away. During his time in Yerusholayim, he refrained from taking a stance on communal matters, and remained in his home learning Kabbalah, together with the elite of Yerusholayim. In his final year, the Minchas Elazar of Munkacs came to Eretz Yisroel specially to visit him, and they discussed Kabbalistic matters together (reputedly, when the Minchas Elazar was asked about this visit, he stated in the name of the Ba’al Shem Tov that in each generation there is one Torah leader who is Mashiach ben Yosef, and R. Alfandari was the one of that generation. Yeshurun 30, p. 514). He authored responsa MaHaRSHA, Responsa Saba Kadisha and more.

עמוד של חידושי תורה בכתב יד (שני צדדים), מאת ר’ שלמה אליעזר אלפנדרי, המכונה סבא קדישא (ללא חתימה).
ר’ שלמה אליעזר אלפנדרי (סביבות תקע”ג- תר”צ, 1813-1930) היה מגדולי הרבנים בטורקיה. היה תלמיד חכם ומקובל עצום, ועוד בצעירותו התכתב עם ר’ עקיבא איגר. כיהן כרב בקושטא ובדמשק. בהיותו כבן מאה שנה עלה לארץ ישראל וכיהן כרבה של צפת. בערוב ימיו התיישב בירושלים ובה נפטר. בתקופת מגוריו בירושלים סרב לקבל עליו תפקידים קהילתיים ונותר ספון בביתו לומד את תורת הקבלה יחד עם גדולי ירושלים. בשנתו האחרונה הגיע בעל המנחת אלעזר ממונקאטש במיוחד לבקרו והם דנו בנושאים שונים בקבלה. (מסופר כי כששאלו את המנחת אלעזר אודות ביקורו זה, נענה ואמר בשם הבעל שם טוב כי בכל דור ישנו מנהיג אחד שהוא משיח בן יוסף, ובדורנו היה זה הרב אלפנדרי. ישורון 30, עמוד 514). מחבר שו”ת מהרש”א, שו”ת סבא קדישא ועוד.
