R. Meir Schapiro (1887-1933), was a child prodigy known as the Ilui of Shotz. He served as Rav of Galina, Sanock, Pietrekow and finally Lublin and was one of the most influential rabbinic leaders in pre-war Poland. He founded Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin which became the flagship Yeshiva of Poland and initiated the Daf Ha’Yomi program which is learned by tens of thousands to this day. In the course of the establishment of Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin, R. Meir Schapiro visited America to raise funds where he travelled extensively among the established Jewish communities.
R. Moshe Tzvi Twersky (1890-1972), served as Rebbe in Toloshin. In 1924, he immigrated to America and settled in Philadelphia and was known as the Tolna-Philadelphia Rebbe. He led the Shul “Tzemach Dovid” and invested tremendous efforts in strengthening Yiddishkeit in the area.

ר’ מאיר שפירא (תרמ”ז – תרצ”ג, 1887-1933), התפרסם כבר מהיותו ילד בכישוריו הפלאיים וכונה בפי כל “העילוי משאץ”. הוא כיהן כרב בגלינא, בסאנוק, בפיעטרקוב, ולבסוף בלובלין. היה דמות רבנית בעלת השפעה רבה ביותר בפולין שלפני השואה. הוא ייסד את ישיבת חכמי לובלין שהפכה ברבות הזמן לישיבת הדגל בפולין. הוא הגה את רעיון הדף היומי, בו לומדים עשרות אלפים עד ימינו אנו. במהלך הקמת ישיבת חכמי לובלין, נסע ר’ מאיר שפירא לאמריקה ונדד רבות בין הקהילות היהודיות שם למטרת גיוס כספים.
ר’ משה צבי טווערסקי (תר”נ- תשל”ב, 1890-1972) כיהן כרב בטולושין. בשנת תרפ”ד 1924 היגר לאמריקה והתיישב בפילדלפיה. בה התפרסם כאדמו”ר מטולנא- פילדלפיה. הנהיג את בית הכנסת צמח דוד והשקיע און רב בחיזוק היהדות באזור.
