Psak Ha’Cherem.
In 1520, a dispute which broke out in Italy on a financial matter between Emanuel of Ferrara and Abraham Raphael of Bologna was brought before R. Avrohom Mintz of Padua. One of the parties turned to R. Avrohom Pollack of Cracow who strongly disputed the opinion of R. Mintz. The dispute escalated and as a result R. Pollack placed R. Mintz in Cherem. Some two years later, R. Pollack became involved in a dispute against Samuel, the court physician of Cracow, as a result of which he was compelled to flee. From this time all traces of him disappear. This rare sefer provides a rare glimpse of the rabbinic applications of a “Cherem” in the Sixteenth century.

בשנת ר”פ (1520) הובאה מחלוקת בעניין כלכלי שפרצה באיטליה בין עמנואל מפרארה לבין אברהם רפאל מבולוניה, בפני ר’ אברהם מינץ מפדובה. אחד הצדדים פנה לר’ אברהם פולק מקראקא, אשר התנגד בתוקף לדעתו של הר’ מינץ. המחלוקת החריפה ובסופה הטיל הר’ פולק חרם על הרב מינץ. כשנתיים לאחר מכן, היה הרב פולק מעורב במחלוקת עם סמואל, רופא בית המשפט של קראקא, וכתוצאה מכך נאלץ לברוח. מאז נעלמו כל עקבותיו. ספר נדיר זה מהווה הצצה נדירה אל יישום המושג הרבני “חרם” במאה השש עשרה.
