R. Menashe Ben Yisroel (1604 –1657), was descended from Portuguese Jews who fled to Holland to escape the Inquisition. Renowned as a great Kabbalist, author, diplomat, printer and publisher, he founded a Hebrew press in Amsterdam where he published numerous important seforim. His diplomatic ties with Oliver Cromwell, led to the readmission of Jews to England in 1656.

ר’ מנשה בן ישראל (שס”ד- תי”ז, 1604-1657), היה צאצא למשפחה יהודית מפורטוגל שעקרה להולנד מאימת האינקוויזיציה. נודע כמקובל, דיפלומט, מחבר ומו”ל, והקים בית דפוס יהודי באמסטרדם, בו יצאו לאור ספרים חשובים רבים. בזכות קשריו הדיפלומטיים עם אוליבר קרומוול, נפתחו מחדש שערי אנגליה ליהודים בשנת תט”ז 1656.
