Extremely rare autograph letter by R. Menachem Ziemba to R. Yosef Rosen, the Rogatchover Gaon. R. Menachem Ziemba writes that he had met the Rogatchover many years prior and they spoke in learning, but he does not know if the Rogatchover remembers him, but he most certainly remembers his grandfather, R. Avrohom, a student of the Chidushei HaRIM, who was a neighbor of the Rogatchover in Warsaw. He continues that he has published the Seforim Zera Avrohom and Totzaos Chaim in which he included correspondence between him and the recently departed R. Meir Simcha of Dvinsk. He is planning now to publish the sefer Gur Aryeh Yehuda, written by his recently departed son “HaRav Ha’Gaon Ha’Ilui Ha’Metzuyan R. Leibel Z”L, son-in-law of HaRav R. Mendel, the son of the Sfas Emes”, written when R. Leibel was only 19 years old, and requests that the Rogatchover write an approbation and some Divrei Torah to include in the sefer. He concludes that he is enclosing the proofs of the aforementioned Sefer with the letter and a postcard for the reply.
R. Menachem Ziemba (1883-1943), was revered as a brilliant Talmid Chochom. He was a prolific author and famed for his brilliance as well as humility. He was among the heads of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah and a member of the Warsaw Va’ad Ha’Rabonim. During the dark days of the Warsaw Ghetto, he courageously continued leading the community, and although he had the opportunity to escape he declined to leave his community. He was murdered on Pesach 1943, during the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. His published works include Zera Avrohom, Totzaos Chaim, although most of his novella (over 10,000 pages) were tragically burned in the Ghetto.

מכתב נדיר ביותר בכתב ידו של ר’ מנחם זמבעה לרי יוסף רוזן, הגאון הרוגאצ’ובר. הרב זמבעה כותב שפגש את הרוגאצ’ובר לפני שנים רבות והם דיברו בלימוד. הוא לא יודע אם הרוגאצ’ובר זוכר אותו, אך בוודאי זוכר את סבו, הרב אברהם, שהיה תלמידו של בעל חידושי הרי”מ, אשר היה שכנו של הרוגאצ’ובר בוורשה. בהמשך הוא כותב שהוציא לאור את הספרים “זרע אברהם” ו”תוצאות חיים”, שם הכניס תכתובת בינו לבין הרב מאיר שמחה מדווינסק, אשר נפטר זמן קצר לפני כן. ר’ זעמבה מתאר שהוא מתכנן כעת להוציא לאור את הספר גור אריה יהודה חידושים מבנו ר’ לייבל שנפטר “הרב הגאון העילוי המצוין ר’ לייבל ז”ל, חתנו של הרב ר’ מנדל, בן השפת אמת”, אשר חיבר הרב לייבל בגיל 19 שנים בלבד. הוא מבקש שהרוגאצ’ובר יכתוב הסכמה ודברי תורה לספר, ומסיים בכך שמכניס פלט קדם-דפוס של הספר להגהה, יחד עם המכתב וגלויה עבור התגובה.
ר’ מנחם זעמבה (תרמ”ג-תש”ג 1883-1943) נודע כתלמיד חכם עצום, מחבר חיבורים רבים, וענוותן. היה מראשי מועצת גדולי התורה וחבר של וועד הרבנים בוורשה. בתקופה הנוראה של גטו וורשה הנהיג את קהילתו במסירות נפש, וסירב לנטוש אותה למרות שהזדמן לו לעשות כן. נרצח בפסח תש”ג (1943) במהלך מרד גטו וורשה. חיבר ספרים “זרע אברהם ו”תוצאות חיים”, אך למרבה הצער רוב חידושיו (למעלה מ-10,000 דפים) נשרפו בגטו.
על אודות הידידות והכבוד שרחשו הרוגאצ’ובר והרב מנחם זעמבה זה לזה ראו גם “רבי מנחם זעמבה: חייו ופעולותיו” (ש’ רוטשטיין, תל-אביב תש”ח). אמנם מתוך מכתב זה נראה שלפני תרצ”ו (1936) הקשר ביניהם היה קלוש.
