With inscription written by the Tolna Rebbe as young man. The Rebbe writes that he purchased this sefer, and then pens a fervent prayer that he should reach great heights in his Torah studies and be able to produce original Torah novella.
R. Yochanan of Tolna (1906- 1988) a scion of the great Chasidic dynasty of Chernobyl immigrated together with his parents in 1913 to New York. He studied at Yeshivas R. Yitzchok Elchonon and later at Yeshivas Ohel Moshe in Yerushalayim, where he received Semicha from R. Yosef Chaim Sonenfeld. In 1934 he settled in Montreal where he was known as a great Rebbe, particularly respected for great efforts on behalf of Holocaust survivors. In later years he moved to Yerushalayim where he led his court until his passing in 1988.

ר’ יוחנן מטולנא (תרס”ו-תשמ”ח 1906-1988), צאצא לשושלת החסידית המעטירה טשרנוביל, היגר יחד עם הוריו בשנת תרע”ג (1913) לניו יורק. הוא למד בישיבת ר’ יצחק אלחנן ומאוחר יותר בישיבת אהל משה בירושלים, שם קיבל סמיכה מר’ יוסף חיים זוננפלד. בשנת תרצ”ד (1934) הוא התיישב במונטריאול, שם הוכר כאדמו”ר בעל שיעור קומה שהוערך במיוחד על מאמציו הגדולים למען ניצולי שואה. בערוב ימיו הוא עבר לירושלים, שם ניהל את חצרו עד לפטירתו בשנת תשמ”ח (1988
