205. SCHNEERSON, RABBIYOSEF YITZCHAK / LUBAVITCH / HOLOCAUST

Auction Ended

Item condition: New

Autograph memorandum, written during WWII, when the Rebbe was seeking information regarding his Aunt Mushka and her family, (who tragically perished in the Holocaust). The text written in Yiddish reads “My father’s sister her name is Mushka and her husband, my uncle, the name Moshe Horenstein, with their two sons Shmuel and Menachem Mendel, before the war lived in Otwosk near Warsaw.” ™ R. Yosef Yitzchak Schneerson of Lubavitch (1880-1950), also known as ‘the Rayatz’, was the sixth Rebbe of the Chabad dynasty. He was the son of R. Sholom Dov Ber Schneerson (‘the Rebbe Rashab’), whom he succeeded in 1920. For many years he resisted communist persecution and fought to keep Orthodox Judaism alive from within Soviet Russia. When he was eventually forced to leave, he maintained the struggle from Latvia and then from Poland. After arriving in the United States at the onset of the Holocaust, he dedicated the final decade of his life to raising Jewish awareness and strengthening religious observance on these shores.

Excellent condition, 15.5 by 11 cm, written in pencil with entire text typed underneath the handwriting.

Additionally, a signed postscript by the Rebbe’s wellknown secretary, R. Nissan Mindel, confirms that this is indeed the handwriting of the late Rebbe.
