Card of “Mareh Mekomos”, written by R. Chaim Shmuelevitz for preparation for a shiur on the topic of “Modeh B’Davar She’eino Yachol Likfor Bo” (Bava Metzia 4b), delivered in the Mirrer Yeshiva the 20th of Cheshvan 1971. Lot includes a typed transcript of the shiur.
An interesting custom of R. Chaim was that when preparing these references, he would always write six lines with ten words each (see the biography Moach V’Lev page 82).
R. Chaim Leib Shmuelevitz (1902-1979), was born in Kovno to R. Alter Shmuelevitz, a son-in-law of the Alter of Novardok. He learned under his father and then under R. Shimon Shkop in Grodno where he was known as an Illui, being appointed as the Yeshiva’s youngest Maggid Shiur. In 1925, he joined the Mirrer Yeshiva and in 1930, he married the daughter of its Rosh Yeshiva R. Eliezer Yehuda Finkel. In 1936, he was appointed as a Rosh Yeshiva of the Mir Yeshiva, which he led with tremendous devotion through the tumultuous exile in Shanghai and subsequent reestablishment in Yerusholayim.

גלויה של “מראי מקומות” שנכתב על ידי ר’ חיים שמואלביץ כהכנה לשיעור בנושא “מודה בדבר שאינו יכול לכפור בו” (ב”מ ד:) שנמסר בישיבת מיר בכ’ חשון, תשל”א (1971). האוסף כולל תמלול מוקלד של השיעור.
לר’ חיים היה מנהג מעניין בהכנת מראי מקומות לשיעוריו: הוא נהג לכתוב שש שורות כשבכל שורה עשר מילים (ראה בביוגרפיה “מוח ולב”, עמ’ 82).
ר’ חיים לייב שמואלביץ (תרס”ב-תשל”ט 1902-1979), נולד בקובנא לר’ אלתר שמואלביץ, חתנו של הסבא מנובהרדוק. הוא למד תורה מאביו ולאחר מכן מר’ שמעון שקאפ בגרודנא, שם יצא שמו כעילוי והוא התמנה למגיד השיעור הצעיר בתולדות הישיבה. בשנת תרפ”ה (1925) הוא הצטרף לישיבת מיר ובשנת תר”צ (1930) נשא לאישה את בתו של ראש הישיבה ר’ אליעזר יהודה פינקל. בשנת תרצ”ו (1936) הוא הוכתר לראש ישיבת מיר. הוא הנהיג את הישיבה במסירות עצומה במשך גלותה הסוערת בשנחאי ובהמשך בעת כינונה מחדש בירושלים.
