Autograph card dated 1938, in which R. Shapiro extends warm words of blessing and encouragement. With mention of the hard times that have fallen on the Jewish people and concluding with the prayer “Ono’ Hashem Ho’Shiah Na”.
R. Kalonimus Kalman Schapiro (1889-1944), a scion of the Kozhnitz dynasty, was an outstanding Talmid Chochom and one of the most dynamic leaders of Chasidic youth in Poland in the prewar period. During the Holocaust under horrific circumstances in the Warsaw Ghetto, he continued to lead and inspire both his Chasidim and the general community. His seforim Chovas Ha’Talmidim and Hachshoras Ha’Avreichim received great acclaim and remain classics of Chassidic thought until today. Additionally his Torah thoughts delivered in the Warsaw Ghetto were subsequently published under the title Aish Kodesh and are an important expression of the Jewish people’s eternal bond with the Torah even in the most distressing of times.

כרטיס ברכה אוטוגרפי מתוארך לתרצ”ח (1938), שבו משגר הרב שפירא מילים חמות של ברכה ועידוד. הוא מזכיר את התקופה הקשה העוברת על עם ישראל ומסיים בתפילה “אנא ה’ הושיעה נא”.
ר’ קלונימוס קלמן שפירא (תרמ”ט-תש”ד 1889-1944), נצר לשושלת קוז’ניץ, היה תלמיד חכם מופלג ואחד המנהיגים הדינמיים ביותר של הנוער החסידי בפולין בתקופה שלפני המלחמה. הוא המשיך להנהיג את חסידיו ואת הקהילה הכללית בשואה בנסיבות מזעזעות בגטו ורשא, והפיח בהם השראה ותקווה. ספריו, חובת התלמידים והכשרת האברכים, זכו להוקרה רבה ונותרו ספרי יסוד במחשבת החסידות עד ימינו. בנוסף, הגיגיו התורניים שנמסרו בגטו ורשא פורסמו מאוחר יותר תחת הכותרת “אש קודש” ומהווים ביטוי חשוב להקשר הנצחי של עם ישראל עם התורה גם בעתות המצוקה הקשות ביותר.
