Rare autograph letter by R. Nachman Landynski, Rosh Yeshiva of the Gateshead Yeshiva, to the Agudas Ha’Rabonim of the USA and Canada. It includes an ‘urgent request’ for Gemaras for the Yeshiva students, who were sharing one Gemora between two or three bochurim. He explains that the Yeshiva could not import Gemaras as a result of it being illegal to send any money out of England, and elaborates in detail the high standard of learning in the Yeshiva.
R. Nachman Dovid Landynski (1898 – 1968), was a son of the famed R. Moshe Landynski Rosh Yeshivas Radin. He learned in the Novardok Yeshiva and was sent by the Chofetz Chaim together with R. Eliezer Kahn to found Yeshivas Bais Yosef in Gateshead. He served as Rosh Yeshiva in Gateshead until the 1950’s, when he relocated to New York, and served as Rosh Yeshiva in Yeshivas Chofetz Chaim.

מכתב אוטוגרפי נדיר שכתב ר’ נחמן לנדינסקי, ראש ישיבת גייטסהד, לאגודות הרבנים בארה”ב ובקנדה. במכתב ‘בקשה דחופה’ לגמרות לתלמידי הישיבה, שחולקים גמרא אחת בין שנים או שלושה בחורים. הוא מסביר כי הישיבה לא יכולה לייבא את הגמרא בשל החוק האוסר על הוצאת כספים מחוץ לאנגליה. הוא מרחיב בפירוט על רמת הלימוד הגבוהה בישיבה.
ר’ נחמן דוד לנדינסקי (תרנ”ח- תשכ”ח, 1898-1968) היה בנו של ר’ משה לנדינסקי- ראש ישיבות ראדין הנודע. הוא למד בישיבת נובהרדוק ונשלח על ידי החפץ חיים יחד עם ר’ אליעזר קאהן לייסד את ישיבת בית יוסף בגייטסהד. הוא כיהן כראש הישיבה בגייטסהד עד שנות החמישים, אז עבר להתגורר בניו יורק, שם כיהן כראש ישיבה בישיבת “חפץ חיים”.
