Following the Holocaust, a substantial number of survivors returned to the city of Satmar. They reestablished the Kehilla and appointed R. Naftoli Halpert as their Rav. Despite increased persecution from the Communist Romanian authorities, he courageously led the kehillo. In this letter, R. Halpert pleads with Romanian Chief Rabbi Moshe Rosen to send a Shochet to Satmar. He writes that it is inconceivable, that Satmar which is famous throughout the world should become G-d forbid a desolate עיר הנדחת.
R. Naftoli Halpert (1906-1988), was a talmid of the Vishiva Rav. Known as distinguished Talmid Chochom and Posek, he valiantly led the remnants of the Kehilla in Satmar, often at great personal risk until he immigrated to Eretz Yisroel in the mid 1960’s.

ר’ נפתלי הלפרט (תרס”ו- תשמ”ח 1906-1988) היה תלמידו של האדמו”ר מווישיבע. נודע כתלמיד חכם ופוסק דגול. הנהיג באומץ את שארית פליטת הקהילה בסאטמר, לעיתים קרובות אפילו תוך סיכון עצמי גדול עד שעלה לארץ ישראל באמצע שנות השישים.
