Autograph responsum regarding a Shochet who was suspected of not being proficient. R. Moshe first writes that someone had asked him if it was true that he invalidated that Shochet and responds that it is inconceivable that he could have invalidated him without first meeting him. He suggests that they sit down as a Beis Din and determine whether or not the Shochet is qualified for the position.
R. Moshe Feinstein (1895-1986), was born in Uzda, Belarus where his father served as Rav. Recognized as an outstanding Talmid Chochom from a very young age, he was appointed to his first rabbinical post at age 21 and as Rav of Luban a few years later. Following increased religious persecution in Soviet Russia, he immigrated to the United States. He served as Rosh Yeshiva in Mesivta Tiferes Yerusholayim where he taught hundreds of distinguished talmidim. He had a prime role in the establishment of the orthodox Jewish community in the U.S. and greatly impacted Jewry the world over. He was the preeminent Posek of his time answering thousands of Halachic questions from across the world.

ר’ משה פיינשטיין (תרנ”ה-תשמ”ו 1895-1986) נולד באוזדה שבבלארוס, שם כיהן אביו כיהן כרב. הוא נודע משחר ילדותו כתלמיד חכם מופלג והתמנה למשרתו הרבנית הראשונה בגיל 21. כעבור מספר שנים הוכתר לרבה של לובאן, ובעקבות רדיפה דתית גוברת ברוסיה הסובייטית היגר לארצות הברית. הוא שימש כראש ישיבה במתיבתא תפארת ירושלים, שם לימד מאות תלמידים חשובים. היה לו תפקיד מרכזי בהקמת הקהילה היהודית האורתודוקסית בארצות הברית, אך השפעתו המכרעת ניכרה הרבה מעבר לגבולות ארה”ב. מוכר כגדול הפוסקים בדורו והשיב לאלפי שאלות הלכתיות מכל רחבי העולם.
