First Edition of the classic work of responsa, by R. Yechezkel Landau. Self-published during the author’s lifetime, it includes both parts of Mahadura Kamma. Received to enormous acclaim, the sefer serves as one of the most fundamental halachic works of the Achronim.
In the inside of the cover, there appears the word “Mesudar” in the holy handwriting of the Noda B’Yehuda himself! It appears he checked this copy in order to make sure all was in order before the Sefer was sold. Indeed there are two small corrections in the Sefer, possibly put there under his direction.
R. Yechezkel Landau (1713-1793), was born in Opatow and studied in the great Yeshivos of Ludmir and Brody. He served first as a Dayan in Brody and later as a Rav in Yampol. Whilst in Yampol, his reputation preceded him to the renowned Jewish community of Prague who retained him as Rav, and where he served until his passing. He was held in awe by his rabbinical contemporaries as well as the general public, and was greatly respected in government circles. World famous as one of the most prominent rabbinical leaders of his generation, he led a great Yeshiva and authored many important works, including his classic halachic responsa Noda B’Yehuda (after which he is known), Dagul Mervavah on the Shulchan Aruch and Tzion L’Nefesh Chaya (abbreviated as Tz’lach) on the Talmud.

מהדורה ראשונה של ספר השו”ת היסודי מאת ר’ יחזקאל לנדא. הספר יצא לאור בהדפסה עצמית עוד בחיי המחבר וכולל את שני חלקי המהדורה קמא. הספר הינו מספרי האחרונים הבסיסיים ביותר בהלכה, ונתקבל באהדה עצומה.
בצד הפנימי של הכריכה כתובה המילה “מסודר” בכתב יד קודשו של הנודע ביהודה עצמו! כפי הנראה, עותק זה נבדק על ידו טרם הבאתו למכירתו, כדי לוודא שהכול מודפס כסדר. אכן, ישנם שתי תיקונים קטנים בתוך הספר, יתכן על פי הוראתו.
ר’ יחזקאל לנדא (תע”ג – תקנ”ג, 1713-1793) נולד באופטוב ולמד בישיבות לודמיר וברודי המעטירות. הוא שימש תחילה כדיין בברודי ולאחר מכן כרב בימפול. שמו הלך לפניו בעודו בימפול, והקהילה היהודית הנודעת בפראג בחרה בו כרב. הוא כיהן במקום עד פטירתו. חבריו הרבנים והקהל הרחב העריצו אותו עד מאוד, וגם אנשי הממשל רחשו לו כבוד רב. נודע ברחבי העולם כאחד מגדולי המנהיגים הרבניים בדורו וכתב ספרים חשובים רבים כולל שו”ת “נודע ביהודה” (שעל שמו הוא קרוי), ” דגול מרבבה” על השולחן ערוך ו”ציון לנפש חיה” (צל”ח) על הש”ס.
