R. Yosef Yehuda Leib Bloch (1860-1929), was born in Rusyan and in his youth studied under the Alter of Kelm and in the Volozhin Yeshiva under the Netziv and R. Chaim of Brisk. He married the daughter of R. Eliezer Gordon, Rav and Rosh Yeshiva in Telshe and in 1884 began saying a daily shiur in the Yeshiva. Known as a tremendous Gaon and Ba’al Mussar, in 1910, upon the passing of R. Eliezer Gordon, R. Yosef Leib was appointed to succeed him as Rav and Rosh Yeshiva where he served for the next 20 years until his passing.

כרטיס חבר של תלמיד ישיבת טלז לשנת הלימודים תרפ”ב-תרפ”ג (1922-1923). עם חתימה וחותמת של ראש הישיבה ר’ יוסף לייב בלוך.
ר’ יוסף לייב בלוך (תר”כ-תרפ”ט 1860-1929) נולד ברוסיאן ולמד תורה בצעירותו מפי הסבא מקלם ובישיבת וולוז’ין אצל הנצי”ב ור’ חיים מבריסק. נשא לאשה את בתו של ר’ אליעזר גורדון, רב וראש ישיבה בטלז, ובתרמ”ד (1884) החל למסור שיעור יומי בישיבה. נודע כגאון עצום וכבעל מוסר. בשנת תר”ע (1910), לאחר פטירתו של ר’ אליעזר גורדון, זומן ר’ יוסף למלא את מקומו כרב וכראש ישיבה, משרה שהחזיק בה במשך עשרים שנים עד לפטירתו.
