In this work R. Chaim Vital expounds on the teachings of the Arizal that every soul must migrate through other bodies in order to rid itself of particles of evil.
Originally the Rabbonim of Frankfurt opposed the publication of this work due to the Shabtai Tzvi movement which was then rampant and they were fearful of charlatans who claimed to be reincarnations of Shabtai Tzvi. Consequently, the editor, R. Dovid Grunhut, a renowned Kabbalist and scholar in his own right, commissioned a Gentile printer to print the sefer. (See M. Waxman vol. 2 pp. 417-18.)

בספר זה מבאר ר’ חיים ויטאל את דברי האריז”ל שכל נשמה צריכה לעבור דרך גופים שונים בכדי להתנקות מחלקים רעים.
בתחילה התנגדו רבני פרנקפורט להדפסת ספר זה בגלל הכת של שבתאי צבי שהתפשטה באותה תקופה. הם חששו מפני שרלטנים שטענו שהם גלגולים של שבתאי צבי. משום כך שכר המו”ל ר’ דוד גרונהוט, תלמיד חכם ומקובל מפורסם בזכות עצמו, בעל דפוס גוי שידפיס את הספר (עיין מ. וקסמן חלק 2 עמוד 417-18).
