Classic Halachic Responsa of R. Aryeh Leib Ginzberg. This work is one of the most basic and monumental works of responsa and is frequently quoted by many of the later Achronim.
R. Aryeh Leib Ginzberg (1695-1785), served as Rav and Rosh Yeshiva in Volozhin. Among his students from that period were R. Chaim of Volozhin (1749-1821), and R. Refoel Hamburger. While in Volozhin he published his monumental work Sha’agas Aryeh. After a dispute with a local landowner he was forced to leave. At the age of 70, he was appointed Rav in Metz where he served until his passing at the age of 90.

ר’ אריה לייב גינזברג (תנ”ה-תקמ”ה 1695-1785) כיהן כרב וכראש ישיבה בוולוז’ין. בין תלמידיו מתקופה זו נמנים ר’ חיים מוולוז’ין (תק”ט-תקפ”א 1749-1821) ור’ רפאל המבורגר. בעודו בוולוז’ין הוא הוציא לאור את חיבורו המונומנטלי “שאגת אריה”. בעקבות מחלוקת עם בעל אחוזה מקומי הוא נאלץ לעזוב את העיר. בהיותו בן שבעים, הוא התמנה לרבה של מץ וכיהן במקום עד פטירתו בגיל תשעים.
