Classic commentary to the She’iltos of R. Achai Gaon by R. Naftoli Tzvi Yehuda Berlin, the Netziv of Volozhin. This was the Netziv’s first Sefer to be published and was received to enormous acclaim.
Lot includes the Netziv’s classic work on Shir HaShirim with She’air Yisroel. The She’air Yisroel is a classic treatise on the subject of Anti-Semitism. Written in Czarist Russia during the era of the pogroms, mass immigration to America and the early days of the Chibas Zion movement, the subject remains pertinent today.
R. Naftoli Tzvi Yehuda Berlin (1816–1893), was one of the greatest rabbinical figures of his era, Rosh Yeshiva of Volozhin and author of many important works. His first wife was the daughter of R. Yitzchok of Volozhin, the son of R. Chaim of Volozhin. His second wife was his niece, a daughter of his brother-in-law, R. Yechiel Michel Epstein, the author of the Aruch HaShulchan. His son, R. Chaim Berlin, became the Rav of Moscow and a daughter married R. Refoel Shapiro later Rosh Yeshiva in Volozhin. R. Meir Berlin (later Bar-Ilan) was his son from his second marriage.

פירוש יסוד לשאילתות של ר’ אחאי גאון מאת ר’ נפתלי צבי יהודה ברלין, הנצי”ב מוולוז’ין. זהו חיבורו הראשון של הנצי”ב שיצא לאור והוא התקבל באהדה עצומה.
כולל את פירושו של הנצי”ב לשיר השירים עם שאר ישראל. שאר ישראל הינו חיבור על נושא האנטישמיות. נכתב בתוככי רוסיה הצארית בתקופת ההגירה ההמונית לאמריקה ותחילת ימיה של תנועת חיבת ציון. הנושא רלוונטי עד ימינו.
ר’ נפתלי צבי יהודה ברלין הנצי”ב (תקע”ו-תרנ”ג 1816-1893), מגדולי הרבנים בתקופתו, עמד בראש ישיבת וולוז’ין וחיבר כמה ספרים חשובים. היה מפורסם בשקדנותו ועמלו העצום בתורה, וכתב ספרים על מגוון רחב של מקצועות התורה. רעייתו הראשונה הייתה בתו של ר’ יצחק מוולוז’ין, בנו של ר’ חיים מוולוז’ין. רעייתו השנייה הייתה אחייניתו, בתו של ר’ יחיאל מיכל אפשטיין, בעל ערוך השולחן. בנו ר’ חיים ברלין, התמנה לרבה של מוסקבה, ובתו נישאה לר’ רפאל שפירא, לימים ראש ישיבת וולוז’ין. בנו מנישואין שניים היה ר’ מאיר ברלין (לימים בר אילן).
