R. Yitzchak Ben R. Yosef Karo (1458-1535), lived in Toledo where he led a great Yeshiva. Several years before the Spanish Expulsion in 1492, he moved his Yeshiva to Portugal, but following the subsequent expulsion of the Jews from there, he fled to Turkey where he served on the Rabbinate of Constantinople, where the Toldos Yitzchak was first published in 1518.

ר’ יצחק בן ר’ יוסף קארו (רי”ח- רצ”ה 1458-1535), התגורר בטולדו, בה גם עמד בראשות ישיבה מפוארת. מספר שנים קודם גירוש ספרד ברנ”ב 1492 עבר עם ישיבתו לפורטוגל. אולם עם גירוש היהודים אף ממנה, נמלט לטורקיה, שם שימש ברבנות בקושטא. ספרו תולדות יצחק נדפס שם לראשונה בשנת רע”ח 1518.
