Commentary of the Ohr HaChaim on various seforim of NaCH.
The seforim of the Ohr HaChaim HaKadosh were received to almost unprecedented acclaim, particularly among Chassidim and Mekubalim. The CHIDA in Shem HaGedolim writes of the great esteem that the Ba’al Shem Tov had for the Ohr HaChaim HaKadosh. In a famous instance R. Chaim Halberstam (Divrei Chaim) ruled that an individual who does not believe that the Ohr HaChaim HaKadosh was written with Ruach HaKodesh is to be considered a heretic.
R. Chaim Ibn Attar (1696-1743), was born in Morocco and was one of its most prominent Rabbonim. In 1733, he decided to emigrate to Eretz Yisroel. En route, he stopped in Livorno where wealthy members of the community pleaded for him to stay and established a Yeshiva for him. In 1742, he arrived in Yerusholayim where he became Rav of the Knesses Yisroel Shul. His most famous talmid was R. Chaim Dovid Azulai (CHIDA). He is buried on Har HaZesim and there are countless accounts of miraculous divine assistance after praying at his Kever.

ספריו של האור החיים הקדוש התקבלו באהדה חסרת תקדים, בעיקר בקרב החסידים והמקובלים. החיד”א בשם הגדולים כותב על ההערכה העצומה שרחש הבעל שם טוב לאור החיים הקדוש. באירוע מפורסם אמר ר’ חיים הלברשטאם (הדברי חיים), כי יהודי שאינו מאמין שהאור החיים הקדוש נכתב ברוח הקדוש- נחשב לכופר.
ר’ חיים אבן עטר (תנ”ו- תק”ג, 1696-1743), נולד במרוקו, והיה מנכבדי רבניה. בשנת תצ”ג 1733, החליט לעלות לארץ ישראל. בדרכו עצר בליוורנו, ושם שכנעו אותו עשירי הקהילה להישאר בה ואף ייסדו עבורו ישיבה במקום. בשנת תק”ב 1742 הגיע לירושלים וכיהן כרב בית הכנסת כנסת ישראל. תלמידו המפורסם ביותר היה ר’ חיים דוד אזולאי (החיד”א). נקבר בהר הזיתים, וישנם אינספור עדויות ואנשים שנושעו אחר תפילה על קברו.
