Best known for his Halachic commentary on the Talmud. He was descended from a rabbinical family, one of his ancestors was R. Eliezer Ben Nosson (the RaAVaN). He had eight sons, the most prominent of whom was Rabbeinu Yaakov author of the Arba’ah Turim. His seforim had an enormous impact, and are one of foundations of the Shulchan Oruch.

רבינו אשר, המכונה בד”כ הרא”ש, (נפטר בשנת פ”ז 1327) היה מגדולי הראשונים. נודע בעיקר בזכות פרושו ההלכתי על הש”ס. היה מצאצאי משפחה רבנית, ביניהם ר’ אליעזר בן נתן (הראב”ן). זכה לשמונה בנים, המפורסם מביניהם היה רבינו יעקב מחבר הספרים ארבעה טורים. לחיבורו הייתה השפעה כבירה והינה מיסודותיו של השולחן ערוך.
