The Knesses Yisroel Slabodka Yeshiva was established in 1881 by R. Nosson Tzvi Finkel (1849-1927), a student of R. Simcha Zissel Ziv, the “Alter” of Kelm. Under the leadership of both the “Alter” and the Rosh Yeshiva, R. Moshe Mordechai Epstein, it quickly became one of the most prestigious Yeshivos in Europe. Distinguished alumni include R. Aaron Kotler, R. Reuven Grozovsky, R. Yaakov Kamenetsky, R. Yaakov Yitzchok Ruderman, R. Yitzchok Hutner and R. Elazar Shach.

ישיבת כנסת ישראל סלבודקא נוסדה על ידי ר’ נתן צבי פינקל (תר”ט-תרפ”ז 1849-1927), תלמיד ר’ שמחה זיסל זיו- הסבא מקלם, בשנת (תרמ”א 1881). תחת הנהגתם של הסבא וראש הישיבה, ר’ משה מרדכי אפשטיין, הפכה הישיבה עד מהרה לאחת הישיבות הנחשבות ביותר באירופה.
