Open letter by R. Avrohom Yitzchok HaKohen Kook to R. Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld and R. Yitzchok Yeruchum Diskin.
Following the establishment of the British Mandate in Palestine under the leadership of Sir Herbert Samuel, efforts were made to unite the various rabbinical factions into a central organization “the Rabbanut” with R. Kook at its head. In 1920, R. Kook published his Sefer “Oros”, where he outlined his views concerning the Jewish people and the proposed resettlement of Eretz Yisroel. In response, R. Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld and R. Yitzchok Yeruchum Diskin published an open letter against the views of that sefer. This pamphlet was published by R. Kook in response to that letter; R. Kook implores his ideological opponents to join forces with him to establish a central Rabbinate in Eretz Yisroel.

לאחר הקמת המנדט הבריטי בארץ ישראל בהנהגתו של שר הרברט סמואל, נעשו מאמצים לאחד את הסיעות הרבניות השונות לארגון מרכזי “הרבנות” בראשות הרב קוק. בשנת תר”פ (1920) הוציא הרב קוק את ספרו “אורות”, בו התווה את השקפותיו לגבי העם היהודי ויישובה מחדש של ארץ ישראל. בתגובה לספר פרסמו ר’ יוסף חיים זוננפלד ור’ יצחק ירוחם דיסקין מכתב גלוי נגד השקפות הספר. חוברת זו פורסמה על ידי הרב קוק בתגובה למכתב זה; הרב קוק מפציר במתנגדיו האידאולוגיים להצטרף אליו כדי להקים רבנות מרכזית בארץ ישראל.
