Autograph letter by R. Meir Shapiro. He writes that he has sent a transcript of his Derosho which he gave, to the home of the local Rav and should he wish, he may use it.
On the reverse side of the letter, there appears a note written by an unknown hand, seemingly dictated by R. Meir Schapiro, which says the following: “Herr Ruv, I knocked on your door 2 or 3 times and you have avoided me. Eventually we will meet. You should be aware that I descend generation after generation OF from holy ancestors and I merited the masses, with the establishment of the Daf Ha’Yomi and Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin. The Holy Torah will exact its retribution from you, and I and my students will be innocent.” Seemingly there was some conflict, and R. Meir Schapiro felt it necessary to protest the affront to “Kovod HaTorah”.
R. Meir Shapiro (1887-1933), was known as a child prodigy and referred to as the Illui of Shotz. He served as Rav of Galina, Sanock, Pietrekow and finally Lublin. He founded Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin which became the flagship Yeshiva of Poland and initiated the Daf Ha’Yomi program which is followed by tens of thousands to this day.

מכתב אוטוגרפי מר’ מאיר שפירא. הוא כותב שהוא שלח תעתיק של דרשה שמסר לבית הרב המקומי, ואם הלה ירצה, יוכל להשתמש בו.
בצד השני של המכתב מופיעה הערה בכתב יד לא מוכר שהוכתבה לכאורה על ידי ר’ מאיר שפירא בזו הלשון: “הער רוב דפקתי על דלתותיו פעמים ושלש והתחבה אחרי כי סוף כל סוף פגשנוהו. אני דור אחר דור נצר מטעי קודש וזכיתי את הרבים בדף היומי וישיבת חכמי לובלין והתורה הקדושה תדרוש … את עלבונה ואני ותלמידי יהי’ נקיים” כנראה שהיה עימות כלשהו, ור’ מאיר שפירא ראה חובה לעצמו למחות על בזיון כבוד התורה.
ר’ מאיר שפירא (תרמ”ז-תרצ”ג 1887-1933) היה ידוע כילד פלא וכונה “העילוי משאץ”. הוא כיהן כרב בגלינא, בסאנוק, בפיטרקוב ולבסוף אף בלובלין. הוא הקים את ישיבת חכמי לובלין שהפכה לישיבת הדגל של פולין. כמו כן הוא ייסד את תכנית הדף היומי, הנלמדת על ידי עשרות אלפי אנשים עד ימינו.
