R. Yaakov Kranz (1741-1804) was born in Zhetel near Vilna and served as a Maggid travelling from town to town giving sermons. He was well known for his stories and parables which are repeated to this day. Although there were many Maggidim in his time, he was highly regarded and none less than the Vilna Gaon requested that he inspire him with mussar.

ר’ יעקב קרנץ (תק”א-תקס”ד 1741-1804) נולד בזעטל סמוך לווילנא ושימש כמגיד הנוסע מעיר לעיר ודורש דרשות מוסר. הוא התפרסם בזכות סיפוריו ומשליו השגורים בפי כל עד ימינו. על אף שהיו מגידים רבים בתקופתו, הוא הוערך מאוד ואפילו הגאון מווילנא ביקש ממנו שיעורר את לבו בדברי מוסר.
