Comprehensive work on the International Dateline and the laws of Kiddush HaChodesh by the famous Gaon, R. Aaron Chaim Zimmerman. In the early 1950’s when the halachic status of the International Dateline was the subject of considerable debate, (R. Yechiel Michel Tuktchinsky and the Chazon Ish had both published works on the topic), R. Chaim Zimmerman published his best known work Agan Ha’S’Har. He is said to have considered that only a limited few could understand his work and thus printed a very limited edition of only several hundred copies. His most famous disputant was R. Menachem Kasher, with whom the author engaged in this work following R. Kasher’s sefer Kav Ha’Ta’arich on the subject.
R. Aaron Chaim Zimmerman (1914-1995) was born in Konotop, Ukraine to R. Yaakov Moshe Zimmerman who was a brother-in-law of R. Boruch Ber Leibowitz. He was known as a prodigy from a young age and as a teenager he studied with his uncle in the Kaminetz Yeshiva. He immigrated to the U.S and received Semicha from R. Moshe Soloveitchik. In his first published work, Binyan Halacha (1942), Chief Rabbi Yitzchak Issac Halevy Herzog attests that the young author was fully knowledgeable in the entire Talmud Bavli and Yerushalmi, Rishonim and Achronim. He served as Rosh Yeshiva in the Skokie Yeshiva in Chicago until 1964 and then in Jerusalem until his passing.

יצירה מקיפה על קו התאריך הבינלאומי והלכות קידוש החודש מאת הגאון המפורסם ר’ אהרן חיים צימרמן. הסטטוס ההלכתי של קו התאריך הבינלאומי היה שנוי במחלוקת ניכרת בשנות התש”י (1950) המוקדמות (ר’ יחיאל מיכל טיקוצ’ינסקי והחזון איש פרסמו מאמרים בנושא). בתקופה זו, ר’ חיים צימרמן הוציא לאור את ספרו הנודעת ביותר, “אגן הסהר”. הוא סבר כי רק מעטים יבינו את כתיבתו, ולכן הדפיס מהדורה מוגבלת מאוד של כמה מאות עותקים. בר הפלוגתא המוכר ביותר שלו היה ר’ מנחם קשר. המחבר כתב ספר זו בעקבות ספרו של ר’ קשר בנושא המדובר, “קו התאריך”.
ר’ אהרן חיים צימרמן (תרע”ד-תשנ”ה 1914-1995) נולד בקונוטוף, אוקראינה, לר’ יעקב משה צימרמו שהיה גיסו של ר’ ברוך בער ליבוביץ. הוא נודע כעילוי מגיל צעיר ולמד בבחרותו עם דודו בישיבת קמניץ. הוא היגר לארצות הברית וקיבל סמיכה מר’ משה סולובייצ’יק. בספרו הראשונה שיצאה לאור, “בנין הלכה” (תש”ב-1942), הרב הראשי ר’ יצחק אייזיק הלוי הרצוג מעיד כי המחבר הצעיר היה בקיא לחלוטין בכל התלמוד הבבלי, הירושלמי, הראשונים והאחרונים. הוא כיהן כראש ישיבה בישיבת סקוקי בשיקגו עד תשכ”ד (1964) ולאחר מכן בירושלים עד פטירתו.
