Te’udas Chover. Prague 1813. Extremely rare.
Rare Te’udas Chover signed by,
• R. Eliezer Fleckles, the Teshuva M’Ahavah and Rosh Beis Din in Prague;
• R. Shmuel Landau, son and successor of the Noda B’Yehuda of Prague;
• R. Leib Mellis, Dayan in Prague.
R. Eliezer Fleckles (1754-1826), was a descendent of the MaHaRAL of Prague and R. Heschel of Cracow. In his youth he studied for two years under R. Meir Fishelis and for ten years under the Noda B’Yehuda. He first served as Rov of Kojetein and in 1783, he was invited by the Noda B’Yehuda to serve on the Beis Din in Prague, eventually heading the Beis Din together with the Noda B’Yehuda’s son R. Shmuel. He was one of the greatest poskim of his era and his halachic responsa Teshuva M’Ahavah is one of the classic Sifrei Achronim, studied in great depth.
R. Shmuel Landau (1750-1834), was the son and student of R. Yechezkel Landau (Noda B’Yehuda) whom he succeeded as Rav in Prague. He was instrumental in publishing his father’s works and added many of his own glosses. His responsa were published in the work Shivas Tzion.
R. Leib Mellis was a student of R. Yonason Eibeshitz. Renowned as an outstanding Talmid Chochom and a great Posek he served as a Dayan in Prague.
In many European Kehillos, particularly amongst the “Ashkenazim” it was customary that the Bais din awarded outstanding members of the community the title “Chover”.

ר’ אליעזר פלעקלס (תקי”ד- תקפ”ו 1754-1826), היה מצאצאי המהר”ל מפראג ור’ הרשל מקראקא. בצעירותו למד תורה משך שנתיים מר’ מאיר פישליש ועשר שנים מהנודע ביהודה. בתקמ”ג (1783), קרא לו הנודע ביהודה לשמש בבית הדין של פראג, עד שבסופו של דבר עמד בראשותה יחד עם ר’ שמואל- בן הנודע ביהודה. היה מגדולי הפוסקים בדורו, וספרו שו”ת תשובה מאהבה- הינו מספרי האחרונים הבולטים הנלמדים בעיון רב.
ר’ שמואל לנדאו (תק”פ- תקצ”ד 1750-1834), היה בנו, תלמידו, ומאוחר יותר גם ממשיכו כרב בפראג של ר’ יחזקאל לנדאו (נודע ביהודה). מילא תפקיד חשוב בהוצאת חידושי אביו לאור ואף הוסיף הגהות רבות. תשובותיו בספר שיבת ציון.
ר’ לייב מעליס היה מתלמידי ר’ יהונתן אייבשיץ. נודע כתלמיד חכם עצום ופוסק. שימש כדיין בבית הדין בפראג.
בקהילות רבות באירופה, בעיקר בקרב האשכנזים, היה נהוג כי בית הדין העניק את התואר “חבר” לחברי הקהילה הראויים לציון.
