R. Chaim Ozer Grodzensky (1863-1940), was born into a distinguished rabbinical family and was renowned from a young age for his brilliant mind coupled with great diligence. He initially learned in Eisheshok and later in Volozhin, studying under R. Chaim Soloveitchik. He married the daughter of R. Eliyahu Eliezer Grodzensky, a leading Rov of Vilna (son-in-law of R. Yisroel Salanter), whom he later succeeded. He dedicated his life to the needs of the Jewish People and was recognized as the leading Posek and spiritual leader of his generation, consulted on virtually every Jewish communal issue. He played an instrumental role in preserving Lithuanian Yeshivos during the beginning of the Communist era, and led the yeshivas of Poland and Russia after the Nazi invasion of Poland in 1939, arranging for these yeshivas to relocate to Lithuanian villages.
R. Yitzchok Blazer, known as R. Itzel Peterburger (1837-1907), was among the prominent talmidim of R. Yisroel Salanter and was actively involved in the dissemination of Mussar in the Lithuanian Yeshivos. An exceptional Talmid Chochom and great Ba’al Mussar he was appointed as Rov of St. Petersburg at the behest of R. Yisroel, a position he held between 1862-1878. In 1878, he resigned and moved to Kovno. From 1880, he headed the Kovno Kollel for a number of years. In 1904, he immigrated to Eretz Yisroel settling in Yerusholayim where he was greatly revered. ר’ חיים עוזר גרודז’ינסקי (תרכ”ג-ת”ש 1863-1940) נולד למשפחה רבנית מיוחסת והתפרסם מגיל צעיר במוחו המבריק ובשקידתו העצומה. בתחילה למד באיישישוק ולאחר מכן בוולוז’ין אצל ר’ חיים סולובייצ’יק. הוא נישא לבתו של ר’ אליהו אליעזר גרודנסקי – מרבני ווילנא (חתנו של ר’ ישראל מסלנט) – שאת מקומו מילא בשלב מאוחר יותר. הוא הקדיש את חייו לצרכי עם ישראל והוכר כפוסק ומנהיג הדור הרוחני. הוא ענה לשאלות הלכתיות מכל רחבי תבל וייעץ בכל נושא ציבורי בעולם היהודי. הוא שמר על ישיבות ליטא בתחילת תקופת השלטון הקומוניסטי והציל את ישיבות פולין ורוסיה אחרי פלישת הנאצים לפולין בשנת תרצ”ט (1939) על ידי העברתן לעיירות בליטא.
ר’ יצחק בלאזר המכונה ר’ איצלה’ פטרבורגר (תקצ”ז- תרס”ז, 1837-1907), היה מגדולי תלמידיו של ר’ ישראל סלנטר, ומעורב באופן פעיל בהפצת המוסר בישיבות הליטאיות. התפרסם כתלמיד חכם דגול ובעל מוסר עצום, ובהוראת ר’ ישראל סלנטר נתמנה כרבה של סנט-פטרבורג, משרה בה כיהן בין השנים תרכ”ב- תרל”ח 1862-1878. בשנת תרל”ח 1878 התפטר ועבר להתגורר בקובנא. החל מתר”מ 1880, עמד בראשות כולל קובנא במשך כמה שנים. עלה לארץ ישראל בשנת תרס”ד 1904, והתיישב בירושלים, בה היה נערץ מאוד. מחבר הספר תשובות פרי יצחק.
