Beautiful autograph letter to “My friend, the friend of Kol Bais Yisroel, HaGaon H’Amiti, Pe’er Ha’Dor, full of knowledge and fear of Hashem, Ha’Cohen HaGadol L’Bais Yisroel Moreinu HaRav R. Avrohom Yitzchok Ha’Cohen Kook”, wishing him a Shana Tovah and including many warm blessings. He also wishes a Shana Tovah to “HaGaon Mofes Ha’Dor…R. Avrohom Duber Kahana-Shapiro, the Kovno Rav”, as he didn’t have his address, and R. Kook’s son in law R. Yisroel Rabinowitz-Thumim (son of the ADERES). Presumably, this was written to R. Kook while he was on a fundraising trip in America together with the D’var Avrohom.
R. Moshe Mordechai Epstein (1866-1934), learned at the famed Volozhin Yeshiva, where he was considered an Ilui. He was asked by the “Alter” of Slabodka to serve as Rosh Yeshiva of the Knesses Yisroel-Slabodka Yeshiva. Additionally, he served as Av Beis Din of Slabodka and was active in the Council of Torah Sages. He led a group of Talmidim from Slabodka to establish Yeshivas Chevron. Following the Chevron pogrom of 1929, in which many of the students at his Yeshiva were killed, the Yeshiva was moved to Yerusholayim.

מכתב אוטוגרפי יפהפה “לכבוד ידיד נפשי ידיד כל בית ישראל הגאון האמיתי פאר הדור מלא דעת ויראת ה’ הכהן הגדול לבית ישראל מוה’ר אברהם יצחק הכהן קוק שליט”א מרא דארעא ישראל”, המאחל לו שנה טובה ואיחולים לבביים רבים. הוא גם מאחל שנה טובה ל”הגאון מופת הדור… ר’ אברהם דובער כהנא- שפירא, הרב מקובנא”, שכן לא הי לו את כתובתו, וכן לר’ חתנו של הר’ קוק ר’ ישראל רבינוביץ- תאומים (בנו של האדר”ת).
כפי הנראה, מכתב זה נכתב להר’ קוק בזמן שהותו באמריקה יחד עם הדבר אברהם למטרות גיוס כספים.
ר’ משה מרדכי אפשטיין (תרכ”ו- תרצ”ד, 1866-1934), למד בישיבת וולוז’ין המעטירה, בה התפרסם כעילוי. נתבקש ע”י האלטר מסלבודקא לכהן כראש ישיבת כנסת ישראל סלבודקא, וכן שימש כאב בית הדין בסלבודקא. היה פעיל מאוד במועצת גדולי התורה. הוא עמד בראש קבוצת התלמידים מסלבודקא שנסעו ליסד ישיבת חברון. אחר הפוגרומים בתרפ”ט 1929, בה נרצחו תלמידים רבים מישיבתו, העתיקה הישיבה את מקומה לירושלים.
