Autograph letter written to R. Yisroel Salanter regarding R. Yisroel’s son R. Yitzchok Lipkin securing the position as Rav of Yannova. Yannova was one the most well-known and distinguished Jewish communities in Lithuania.
R. Chaim Berlin, Rav of Mohilev, was a first cousin of R. Naftoli Tzvi Yehuda Berlin (Netziv). He served as Rav of Mohilev and was widely respected as one the leading rabbinical figures of his time.
R. Yitzchok Lipkin (1840-1903), was a son of the renowned R. Yisroel Salanter. Known as outstanding Talmid Chochom, he served as Rav of Yannova and Proznitz. Towards the end of his life he immigrated to Eretz Yisroel, settling in Yerusholayim. He was widely respected as a great Talmid Chochom and was instrumental in founding many “Chevra Shas”. His Torah was printed in Chut Ha’Meshulash (Yerusholayim 1904) and Luchos Avanim (Yerusholayim 1988).

מכתב אוטוגרפי קדום שנכתב לר’ ישראל סלנטר בעניין מינויו של בנו ר’ יצחק ליפקין לרבנות בקהילת יאנובה הנודעת. קהילת יאנובה היתה מהנכבדות והמוכרות בליטא.
ר’ חיים ברלין, רבה של מוהיליב, היה בן דודו של ר’ נפתלי צבי יהודה ברלין (הנצי”ב). כיהן כרב במוהיליב, היה נערץ ביותר ונחשב לאחד מגדולי המנהיגים הרבניים בדורו.
ר’ יצחק ליפקין (1840-1903) היה בנו של ר’ ישראל סלנטר הנודע. התפרסם כתלמיד חכם עצום וכיהן כרב בקהילות יאנובה ופרוז’ניץ. בערוב ימיו עלה לארץ ישראל והתיישב בירושלים. היה נערץ מאוד על כל מכיריו ונטל חלק מרכזי בייסוד חברות ש”ס רבות. תורתו יצאה לאור בספר חוט המשולש (ירושלים 1904) ולוחות אבנים (ירושלים 1988).
