Handwritten invitation, possibly dictated by the Sfas Emes himself (not handwritten by the Sfas Emes), to the wedding of R. Nechemya Alter (1875-1942), son of the Sfas Emes and father-in-law of the Lev Simcha.
The wedding took place the 4th of Elul 1890, in Radzimin, with R. Nechemya marrying the daughter of the Radziminer Rebbe, a grandson of R. Mendel of Kotzk.
R. Yehuda Aryeh Leib Alter of Ger (1847-1905), the second Gerrer Rebbe, was born to R. Avrohom Mordechai Alter, son of R. Yitzchak Meir, Chidushei HaRIM, founder of the Gerrer Dynasty. Tragically all the sons of the Chidushei HaRIM passed away during his lifetime, all in their childhood with the exception of R. Avrohom Mordechai, who passed away shortly after the birth of his only son, R. Yehuda Leib (Leib’le). R. Yehuda Leib was raised by his illustrious grandfather. From a tender age, all who knew him were amazed by his diligence and depth in learning. In 1866, when the Sfas Emes was 19, the Chidushei HaRIM passed away, leaving orders to appoint his grandson as his successor. In spite of his young age, the Chassidim wished to appoint him as Rebbe but he adamantly refused and instead, he joined the Chassidim who accepted the leadership of R. Chanoch Henoch of Alexander (a Talmid of the Kotzker) to whom he would travel each year. In 1870, R. Henoch passed away and again the Chassidim sought to appoint R. Leib’le as their Rebbe. After repeated urging, he agreed to accept the position. The 23-year-old Rebbe soon became a central figure in the lives of Polish Jewry and in a short while, under his leadership, the Gerrer dynasty became the largest and most influential Chassidic dynasty in Poland. Known as a tremendous Talmid Chochom, his seforim on Shas as well as on the Parshiyos are renowned for their depth, and are classics greatly beloved by Talmidei Chachomim of all affiliations.

הזמנה בכתב יד לחתונתו של ר’ נחמיה אלתר (תרל”ה- תש”ב, 1875-1942), בנו של השפת אמת וחמיו של הלב שמחה, יתכן שהכתיב על ידי השפת אמת בעצמו (לא בכתב ידו של השפת אמת).
בחתונה שהתקיימה ביום ד’ באלול תר”נ (1980), בראדז’ימין, נשא ר’ נחמיה את בתו של האדמו”ר מרדז’ימין, נכד ר’ מנדל מקאצק.
ר’ יהודה אריה לייב אלתר מגור ה”שפת אמת” (תר”ז-תרס”ה 1847-1905), האדמו”ר השני מגור, היה בנו של ר’ אברהם מרדכי אלתר, בן ר’ יצחק מאיר, החידושי הרי”ם, מייסד שושלת גור. למרבה הכאב, כל בניו של החידושי הרי”ם נפטרו עוד בילדותם בחיי אביהם, מלבד ר’ אברהם מרדכי, שנפטר זמן קצר לאחר הולדת בנו היחיד, ר’ יהודה לייב (לייב’ל). הילד גדל בבית סבו המפורסם. עוד מקטנותו הפליא את רואיו בשקדנותו ועומק לימודו. בשנת תרכ”ו (1866), כשהיה השפת אמת בן 19, נפטר החידושי הרי”ם והשפת אמת מונה לממלא מקומו על פי בקשת הסב. למרות גילו הצעיר, רצו בו החסידים כאדמו”ר, אולם הוא סירב בתוקף ובמקום זאת הצטרף לחסידים שקיבלו עליהם את הנהגת ר’ חנוך העניך מאלכסנדר (תלמיד של הקוצקער) ואף היה נוסע אליו מדי שנה. בתר”ל (1870) כשנפטר ר’ חנוך, שוב ביקשו החסידים למנות את ר’ לייב’ל לאדמו”ר. לאחר הפצרות חוזרות ונשנות הסכים לקבל עליו את התפקיד. האדמו”ר בן ה23 הפך עד מהרה לדמות מרכזית ביהדות פולין, ותחת הנהגתו, הפכה שושלת גור תוך זמן קצר לשושלת החסידית הגדולה והמשפיעה ביותר בפולין.
