R. Yisroel Mordechai Twersky (1929-2004), was a son of R. Yochanan Twersky of Rachmistrivka. He learned in Yeshivos Chayei Olam and Sfas Emes in Yerusholayim. After the passing of his father R. Yochanan in 1982, a “machlokes” ensued between his two sons, each insisting that the other should be Rebbe. A compromise was made that he would serve as Rebbe in Eretz Yisroel, while his brother R. Chai Yitzchok would serve in America.

ר’ ישראל מרדכי טווערסקי (תרפ”ט- תשס”ד, 1929-2004), היה בנו של ר’ יוחנן טווערסקי מרחמסטריווקא. למד בישיבות חיי עולם ושפת אמת. לאחר פטירת אביו רבי יוחנן בשנת תשמ”ב (1982), התגלעה מחלוקת בין שני בניו , כאשר כל אחד עומד על כך שהשני צריך להיות האדמו”ר. הפשרה שנעשתה קבעה כי הוא יהיה אדמו”ר בארץ ישראל, בעוד אחיו ר’ חי יצחק יכהן באמריקה.
