R. Meir Eisenstadt (1670-1744), known after his classic sefer Ponim Me’iros, was born in Lithuania and was a nephew of R. Shabse Kohen, (the Shach). In his youth he studied under R. Avrohom Abele Gombiner (the Magen Avrohom) and R. Dovid Oppenheim. After serving in various rabbinical posts, he was appointed in 1700 at the age of 30, as Rav and Rosh Yeshiva of Worms. He went on to serve as Rav in Prosnitz, where he raised and taught the child prodigy R. Yonason Eibeshitz as his own son, as the child had been orphaned of both his parents. In 1717, R. Meir was appointed as Rav of Eisenstadt and its environs, known as the “Sheva Kehillos” where he established a great Yeshiva which drew Talmidim from all over Europe. Recognized as one of the greatest Achronim, his seforim Ponim Me’iros and Kosnos Ohr remain classics to this day. In addition, he had numerous distinguished descendants and many of the great rabbinical leaders of the subsequent generations were his offspring.
R. Ephraim Zalman Margulies of Brod (1761-1828), was known as one of the leading Gaonim of his generation as well as a prolific writer of many important Halachic works. He served for a while as the Rav of Uhaniv, however he resigned the position and from then on declined to serve in the Rabbinate although he was offered many prestigious positions including the Chief Rabbinate of Frankfurt. He settled in Brod where he taught a select group of outstanding students. He was also well known as a wealthy man and is often used as a classic example of Torah U’Gedulah. His works include Bais Ephraim, Tiv Gittin, Mateh Ephraim.

ר’ מאיר אייזנשטאט (ת”ל – תק”ד, 1670-1744) שנודע על שם ספרו המיוחד “פנים מאירות”, נולד בליטא והיה אחיין של ר’ שבתי הכהן (הש”ך). בצעירותו למד תורה מפי ר’ אברהם אבלי (המגן אברהם) ור’ דוד אופנהיים. בשנת ת”ס (1700), אחרי שכיהן כרב בקהילות שונות, נתמנה לרב ולראש ישיבת וורמייזא כשהוא רק בן 30 שנה. משם עבר לשמש כרב בעיר פרוזניץ בה גידל וחינך את הילד העילויי ר’ יונתן אייבשיץ כבנו, בשל יתמותו משני הוריו. בשנת תע”ז (1717), נתמנה לרבה של אייזנשטאט ופרבריה, הידועות בשם “שבע הקהילות”. באייזנשטאט ייסד ישיבה גדולה אליה נהרו תלמידים מכל רחבי אירופה. הוא מוכר כאחד מגדולי האחרונים, וספריו “פנים מאירות” ו”כתנות אור” מקובלות עד ימינו. בנוסף, זכה לצאצאים חשובים רבים, ורבים מגדולי המנהיגים בדורות הבאים הינם מזרעו.
ר’ אפרים זלמן מרגליות מברודי (תקכ”א-תקפ”ח 1761-1828) היה מוכר כאחד הגאונים המובילים בדורו וכמחבר רב פעלים שכתב כמה ספרים חשובים. הוא כיהן תקופת מה כרב באוהניב, אך לבסוף התפטר מתפקידו וסירב להמשיך לשרת ברבנות אף שהוצעו לו משרות מכובדות רבות כולל משרת הרבנות בפרנקפורט. הוא התיישב בברודי ולימד קבוצה נבחרת של תלמידים מצטיינים. כמו כן, עושרו היה לשם דבר והוא משמש דוגמת מופת ל”תורה וגדולה במקום אחד”. בין ספריו “בית אפרים”, “טיב גיטין”, “מטה אפרים” ואחרים.
