Speech Delivered by R. Eliezer HaLevi (Dr. Lowey, assistant to Sir Moses Montefiore to the residents of Vilna in the Presence of Minister Sir Moses Montefiore).
In 1846, Sir Moses Montefiore journeyed to Russia in an attempt to persuade the Tsar to alleviate persecution of the Jewish population. As mentioned in the introduction by Yekusiel Shapira, who published the book, Massa Eliezer is a chapter from Shmuel Yoseph Fuenn’s “Tiferes L’Moshe”, regarding Sir Montefiore’s trip.
Fuenn’s poem “In Honor of Sir Moses Montefiore” appears at the end of the sefer. According to Vinograd and The National Library the sefer contains 19 pages only, lacking the poem by Fuenn.

בתר”ו (1846) נסע שר משה מונטיפיורי לרוסיא במטרה לשדל את הצאר שיקל מעל נתיניו היהודים את צער הרדיפות. כפי שהוזכר במבוא של יקותיאל שפירא, אשר הוציא לאור את הספר, “מסע אליעזר” הינו למעשה פרק מתוך ספר “תפארת למשה” לשמואל יוסף פואן, על מסעו של השר מונטיפיורי.
שירו של שמואל יוסף פין “לכבוד השר משה מונטיפיורי” מופיע בסוף הספר. על פי וינוגרד והספריה הלאומית, הספר מכיל 19 דפים בלבד, ללא השיר של שמואל יוסף פואן.
