R. Leib Stavisker (1836- 1898), was one of the most prominent and revered rabbinical figures in Lithuania. He learned in Volozhin and later in Eishishok together with the Chofetz Chaim, with whom he remained a life-long friend and confidante. The Chofetz Chaim requested that he undertake the writing of a wide-ranging commentary on the Shulchan Oruch. When he demurred, the Chofetz Chaim himself undertook to author the Mishna Berurah. Rav of Orlova, Szalodak and later Staviski after which he known. Author of Pnei Ha’Ari Ha’Chai. Father of R. Chizkiyahu Yosef Mishkovsky.

ר’ לייב סטוויסקר (תקצ”ו-תרנ”ח 1836-1898) היה אחת הדמויות הרבניות החשובות והמוערכות בליטא. הוא למד בוולוז’ין ומאוחר יותר באיישישוק יחד עם החפץ חיים, שהיה לידידו ואיש סודו כל ימי חייו. החפץ חיים ביקש ממנו לכתוב פירוש נרחב על השולחן ערוך. כאשר הוא התנגד, החפץ חיים קיבל על עצמו לכתוב את המשנה ברורה. שימש כרב באורלובה, זלודק ומאוחר יותר בסטוויסקי – המקום שהניב את כינויו. בעל “פני הארי החי”. אביו של ר’ חזקיהו יוסף משקובסקי.
