Digest of Halacha with an English Translation, based primarily on the Chayei Adam and Kitzur Shulchan Aruch, by R. Dov Ber Abramowitz, R. Chaim Aaronson and R. Yehoshua Yosef Kolbe. With many important approbations, including R. Shmuel Salant, the Ridvaz and R. Naftoli Hertz of Jaffa. This sefer was published in a valiant effort to encourage observance in America in an era where the state of Orthodoxy was unfortunately lax.
R. Dov Ber Abramowitz was born in Vaboilnik and moved at the age of 10 to Yerusholayim, where he learned in Yeshivas Eitz Chaim under R. Moshe Nechemya Kahana and R. Eliezer Don Ralbag. He received Semicha from R. Shmuel Salant. In 1894, he emigrated to the United States and for two years served as Rav in the Anshei Suvalk shul in New York. In 1906, he was appointed Chief Rabbi of St. Louis (succeeding R. Shaul Elchonon Yoffe) and was instrumental in the founding of the Agudas HaRabanim and RIETS, as well as a founder of the American Mizrachi. In addition to his rabbinical duties he also was instrumental in sending financial assistance to the impoverished residents of the Old Yishuv.

ר’ דב בער אברמוביץ נולד בוואבוילניק ועלה בגיל 10 לירושלים, שם למד תורה בישיבת עף חיים מפי הרבנים ר’ משה נחמיה כהנא ור’ אליעזר דן רלבג. קיבל סמיכה מר’ שמואל סלנט. בשנת תרכ”ד (1864) היגר לארצות הברית, שם שימש משך שנתיים כרב בבית כנסת אנשי סובאלק בניו יורק. בשנת תרס”ו (1906) נתמנה לרב הראשי בסנט לואיס (ירש את מקומו של ר’ שאול אלחנן יפה) והשפיע רבות על הקמת אגודת הרבנים וישיבת רבי יצחק אלחנן. היה ממייסדי המזרחי באמריקה. בנוסף לתפקידיו הרבניים, היה שותף גם לשליחת סיוע כספי לתושבי היישוב הישן העניים.
