The Jewish Community Center of Washington D.C was founded in 1911. In 1925, the ground-breaking ceremony was held for the new building. Amongst great pomp and ceremony, President Calvin Coolidge spoke at the laying of the cornerstone, addressing the topic of “The Spiritual Unification of America,” and referring to the Hebrew Scriptures as a unifying force among the widely scattered diverse communities in America.
