Official act of Parliament confirming a Scheme of the Charity Commissioners for the Jewish United Synagogues, enacted by the Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty.
On July 14th 1870 Parliament passed a historic Act formally recognizing the Ashkenazic Synagogues in London under the banner of Jewish United Synagogues. Although established for Synagogues in London, the United Synagogue exercises much influence over Jewish communities in the UK and The Commonwealth. It is governed by an elected council representing the constituent Synagogues under the jurisdiction of the Chief Rabbi.
