Second edition of the fundamental sefer Chasidus authored by R. Yaakov Yosef Ha’Cohen of Polonyia. The Sefer Toldos Yaakov Yosef was the first sefer Chasidus published and is considered the most important and authentic source of the teachings of the Ba’al Shem Tov. The author cites over 280 teachings which he himself heard from the Ba’al Shem Tov [throughout the Sefer, the words “I have heard from my teacher” are stressed].
The Sefer was particularly cherished by Chassidic Rebbes who superlatively extolled its holiness. The Mezritcher Maggid commended the author stating that he merited the revelation of Eliyohu Ha’Novi and Attained elevated spiritual status. According to Chasidic tradition, The Shpolya Zeide would recommend placing the Sefer under the head of an ill person as a segulah.

מהדורה שנייה של ספר החסידות היסודי מאת ר’ יעקב יוסף הכהן מפולנאה. הספר תולדות יעקב יוסף היה ספר החסידות הראשון שיצא לאור, ונחשב למקור החשוב והאותנטי ביותר לתורת הבעל שם טוב. המחבר מצטט מעל 280 דברי תורה ששמע באופן אישי מבעל שם טוב [לאורך הספר מודגשות המילים “שמעתי מרבי”].
הספר היה חביב במיוחד על אדמו”רים חסידיים שהעלו על נס את קדושתו. המגיד ממעזריץ’ הילל את המחבר, והצהיר שהוא זכה לגילוי אליהו והגיע לדרגה רוחנית גבוהה. לפי המסורת החסידית, הסבא משפולי היה ממליץ להניח את הספר תחת ראשם של חולים כסגולה לרפואה.
