Second edition of the Tikunei Ha’Zohar and the only edition of the Chemdas Tzvi commentary, by R. Tzvi Hirsch Chotsh of Cracow. With a beautiful title page depicting various biblical scenes. On the upper part of the title page is a large illustration of a deer. With various distinguished approbations including one by R. Naftali Katz, (Semichas Chachomim).
R. Tzvi Hirsch Chotsch was a renowned Dayan and Mekubal in Cracow in the latter part of the 17th century. He was one of the first disseminators of the Kabbalah of the ARIZAL in Poland and published several important Kabbalistic works including, Nachlas Tzvi, Derech Ha’Yeshoro and Tiferes Tzvi.
As with other kabbalists of his era, his preoccupation with Kabolah led some to accuse him of being a Sabbatean. They point to the deer on the title page as well the word TZVI printed in a large font. It should however be noted that the author’s name was Tzvi as well. מהדורה שניה של תיקוני הזוהר ומהדורה יחידה של פירוש חמדת צבי מאת ר’ צבי הירש חאטש מקראקא. עם עמוד שער יפהפה המתאר סצנות שונות מהתנ”ך. בחלק העליון של עמוד השער יש ציור גדול של צבי. עם הסכמות חשובות שונות כולל הסכמה מר’ נפתלי כ”ץ (“סמיכת חכמים”).
ר’ צבי הירש חאטש היה דיין ומקובל נודע בקראקא בשלהי המאה השבע עשרה. הוא היה מראשוני מפיצי תורת הקבלה של האריז”ל בפולין והוציא לאור מספר ספרים קבליים חשובים כולל “נחלת צבי”, “דרך הישרה” ו”תפארת צבי”.
כמו מקובלים אחרים בדורו, היו שחשדו בו בשבתאות בעקבות עיסוקו בקבלה. הם הצביעו על הצבי בעמוד השער ועל המילה ‘צבי’ המודפסת באותיות גדולות, אך יש לציין שגם שמו של המחבר היה צבי. ראה יערי, דגלי המדפיסים העבריים, עמוד 57.
