Published by R. Yonasan Eibeschutz as a refutation of the accusations against him made by R. Yaakov Emden. Includes the letters of support which he had received from leading Rabbonim who came to his defense. Most famous among these letters is that of the Vilna Gaon (page 71b), in which he expresses his support for R. Eibeschutz, although in his humility he is unsure why R. Eibeschutz asked his opinion. This was the first published writing of the Vilna Gaon.
Following its publication, R. Yaakov Emden responded with sefer Sheviras Luchos Ha’Even (Zolkiew 1756).
R. Yonason Eibeschutz (1690-1764), was orphaned from his father as a child. He was raised by R. Meir Eisenstadt (Ponim Me’iros). He served initially as Rosh Yeshiva in Prague and in 1741, was appointed as Rov in Metz succeeding R. Yehoshua Falk (Pnei Yehoshua). In 1750 he was appointed as Rav of the joint communities of Altona, Hamburg and Wandsbeck (AHU) where he served until his passing. One of the greatest Achronim, he authored over thirty Seforim on a wide range of subjects.

ספר שחיבר ר’ יהונתן אייבשיץ כדי להפריך את טענותיו של ר’ יעקב עמדין נגדו. בספר מופיעים מכתבי תמיכה אותם נתנו לו גדולי ורבני הדור אשר עמדו לצידו ותמכו בדעתו. המפורסם מביניהם הוא מכתב מהגאון מוילנא (עמוד 71ב), בו הוא מביע את תמיכתו בר’ יהונתן אייבשיץ, אם כי בענוותנותו הוא אינו מבין מדוע פנה אליו הר’ אייבשיץ לשמוע את דעתו. זהו מכתבו הראשון של הגר”א שנדפס.
כתגובה לספר זה, הוציא ר’ יעקב עמדין לאור את ספר שבירת לוחות האבן (זולקווא תקט”ז 1756)
ר’ יהונתן איבשיץ (ת”נ-תקכ”ד 1690-1764), נתייתם מאביו בגיל צעיר מאוד, וגדל בביתו של ר’ מאיר אייזנשטאט (הפנים מאירות). שימש בתחילה כראש ישיבה בפראג, ובתק”א (1741), מונה לממלא מקומו של ר’ יהושע פאלק (הפני יהושע) כרב במץ. בתק”י (1750) קיבל את תפקיד הרבנות בהתאגדות הקהילות של אלטונה, המבורג וונדסבק (אה”ו), בו שימש עד פטירתו. היה מגדולי האחרונים, חיבר למעלה משלושים ספרים בנושאים שונים.
