First edition of the Mussar discourses of R. Yeruchum Halevy Levovitz. Printed at the end of 1939, immediately prior to the Holocaust.
R. Yeruchum Levovitz (1873-1936), known as “The Mashgiach”, was considered the most eminent of the leaders of the Mussar movement in the period between the two world wars. As Mashgiach in the Mir Yeshiva, his Mussar discourses were attended by hundreds and his every thought was treated with great reverence. Following his passing in 1936, his students began the task of preparing his lectures for publication, but it was not until late 1939 that they were actually printed.
R. Zeidel Siemiatycki (died 1957), was one of R. Yeruchum’s most eminent talmidim. Known as a distinguished Talmid Chochom, he married the daughter of R. Moshe Schneider of London and served as a Rosh Yeshiva in Yeshivas Toras Emes.
Entire sefer, with the exception of the title page and introduction, printed in stencil form.

מהדורה ראשונה של שיחות המוסר שנאמרו ע”י ר’ ירוחם הלוי ליבוביץ. נדפס בסוף תרצ”ט, (1939), סמוך לפרוץ השואה.
ר’ ירוחם לבוביץ (תרל”ג – תרצ”ו, 1873-1936) “המשגיח” נחשב לאחד המנהיגים המפורסמים ביותר בתנועת המוסר בתקופה שבין שתי מלחמות העולם. הוא שימש כמשגיח בישיבת מיר. בשיחות המוסר שלו השתתפו מאות מאזינים, כשכל מחשבה והגות שלו מתקבלים ביראת כבוד. עם פטירתו, בשנת תרצ”ו – 1936, החלו תלמידיו בעריכת השיחות ע”מ להוציאם לאור, אולם הדפסתם בפועל הייתה רק בסוף תרצ”ט –1939.
ר’ זיידל סמיאטיצקי (נפטר בתשי”ז 1957), היה מגדולי התלמידים של ר’ ירוחם. נודע ללמדן עצום, נישא לבתו של ר’ משה שניידר בלונדון, ונתמנה לראש ישיבה בישיבת תורת אמת.
