Important sefer of Deroshos by R. Moshe Almosnino. This sefer is quoted by the Ketzos HaChoshen in his introduction.
Born in Salonika, R. Moshe ben Baruch Almosnino (c. 1515-c. 1580), hailed from a distinguished Jewish family originally from the Spanish town of Aragon. He was renowned for his knowledge of rabbinical matters and for his scholarship in the sciences, particularly natural physics and astronomy. In 1565, he formed a delegation to petition Sultan Salim II for a confirmation of the privileges previously granted to the Salonika Jews in 1537. His efforts procured a favorable decision and in 1568 the Salonika community was granted the status of a self-governing entity, a prerogative it enjoyed for centuries thereafter.

ר’ משה בן ברוך אלמושנינו (סביבות רע”ה 1515- סביבות ש”מ 1580), נולד בסלוניקא למשפחה יהודית נכבדת שמוצאה מהעיר ארגון שבספרד. נודע בלמדנותו בתורה כמו גם בידיעותיו במדע, במיוחד פיזיקת הטבע ואסטרונומיה. בשנת שכ”ה 1565, עמד בראשות משלחת שעתרה לסולטאן בבקשה לאשר את ההרשאות שניתנו ליהודי סלוניקא בשנת רצ”ז 1537. מאמציו נשאו פרי ובשנת שכ”ח 1568, ניתנה לקהילת סלוניקא ישות עצמית. הקהילה המשיכה ליהנות ממעמד זה עוד מאות שנים לאחר מכן.
