Handwritten judicial document concerning an Aguna dated Nyiregyhaza 1947 signed twice by the Tosher Rebbe and two other Dayanim.
In the aftermath of the Holocaust one of the most pressing and difficult concerns was the tragic plight of Agunos whose husbands disappeared in the horrors of the Holocaust. The unprecedented circumstances were tackled by many of the greatest surviving rabbinical figures of the era who devoted their best efforts to solving these complex and heart wrenching halachic queries. The Laws of Agunos are one of the most complicated in Talmudic law and require gathering testimony from persons who had witnessed the death of the missing husband.
R. Meshulam Feish Lowey-Segal (1921-2015) was a scion of the Tosher dynasty. Known from a young age as extremely devout and pious, he was also renowned for his boundless love of his fellow Jews. He miraculously survived the Holocaust and in 1951 he emigrated to Canada settling in Montreal. In 1961 he founded Kiryas Tosh on the outskirts of Montreal as an enclave for those seeking refuge from the influences of contemporary society. Famed for his piety, heartfelt prayers, love of all Jews and his generous distribution of charity thousands flocked to his court.
This rare document is an early record of complex rabbinical issues being dealt with by the Rebbe at the tender age of 26.

בעקבות השואה, אחד הנושאים הדוחקים והקשים ביותר היה מצבן הטראגי של עגונות שבעליהן נעלמו באימי השואה. רבים מגדולי הרבנים ששרדו את השואה התייחסו למצב חסר תקדים זה והשקיעו את מירב המאמצים לפתירת שאלות הלכתיות סבוכות וטעונות אלו. הלכות עגונות הן מן המורכבות ביותר, והתרתן דורשת איסוף עדויות מאנשים שהיו עדים למות הבעל הנעדר
ר’ משולם פייש לווי-סגל (תרפ”א-תשע”ה 1921-2015) היה נצר לשושלת טאהש. נודע מגיל צעיר כקדוש ופרוש ביותר והתפרסם באהבה חסרת גבולות לכל יהודי. ניצל באורח פלא מהשואה ובשנת תשי”א (1951) היגר לקנדה והתיישב במונטריאול. בשנת תשכ”א (1961) הוא ייסד את קרית טאהש בפרברי מונטריאול כמובלעת למחפשים מפלט מהשפעת החברה המודרנית. אלפים נהרו לחצרו ושמו יצא לתהילה בשל יראת השמים שלו, תפילותיו מעומק הלב, אהבתו לכל יהודי ונדיבות לבו לנזקקים
