Autograph Halachic responsa dated 1917 written to R. Shmuel Meir Ha’Cohen Dayan in Chernowitz. Regarding Tevilas Keilim. Of particular interest is a mention of the tribulations to the Jewish people during World War One. As is well known, many thousands of young Jewish men were lost in battle during the War. This caused a great number of Agunos and R. Mordechai Winkler, was at the forefront of the Halachic issues posed by these tragic circumstances.
R. Mordechai Winkler (1845-1932) was a disciple of the Ksav Sofer and R. Yitzchok Aaron Landsberg. He served as Rav in various communities most notably Mad in Hungary. Greatly revered, he was one of the most influential rabbinical figures in Hungary. Author of Levushei Mordechai.

ר’ מרדכי וינקלר (תר”ה-תרצ”ב 1845-1932) היה תלמיד של הכתב סופר ור’ יצחק אהרן לנדסברג. הוא שימש כרב בקהילות שונות ובפרט במאד שבגרמניה. ההערצה אליו הייתה רבה, והוא היה אחד הרבנים העוצמתיים ביותר בהונגריה. בעל ספר לבושי מרדכי
