R. Chaim Halevy Soloveitchik known as R. Chaim Brisker, (1853-1918) was a great Talmudic scholar and the founder of the popular ‘Brisker’ approach to Talmud study, a method of highly exacting and analytical study that focuses on precise definition/s and categorization/s of Jewish law with particular emphasis on the Rambam. Following many years as a senior lecturer in the renowned Volozhiner Yeshiva, he became the Rav of Brisk. His primary work was Chidushei Rabbeinu Chaim Halevy; a volume of insights on the Rambam, which was published posthumously by his sons, and is a fundamental work in the Lithuanian school of Yeshivas.

ר’ חיים הלוי סולובייצ’יק, שנודע בכינויו “ר’ חיים בריסקער” (תרי”ג-תרע”ח 1853-1918), היה תלמיד חכם מופלג ומייסד הדרך הלימוד “בריסק” הפופולרית ללימוד גמרא. מדובר בשיטת לימוד קפדנית ואנליטית מאוד המתמקדת בהגדרות וסיווגים מדויקים בהלכה עם דגש מיוחד על הרמב”ם. לאחר שנים רבות ששימש כר”מ בישיבת וולוז’ין המעטירה, נתמנה לרב העיר בריסק. ספרו העיקרית היא “חידושי רבינו חיים הלוי” – ספר חידושים על משנה תורה שיצא לאור לאחר פטירתו על ידי בניו שהוא ספר יסוד בישיבות ליטאיות.
